Santander UK plc was formed in 2010 when Abbey National merged with the retail and savings arms of Bradford and Bingley. Alliance and Leicester also merged into the business later the same year. All three of the businesses that merged to form Santander UK were former building societies. Abbey National had previously been purchased by the Santander Group in 2004; the other two were acquired by the group during the 2008 banking crisis. Initially the individual branding of the businesses was retained until 2010, when they were all rebranded under the Santander name. Alliance and Leicester’s business banking operation was merged into Santander Corporate Banking in 2009. Santander UK also operates the internet-only bank Cahoot.
The most popular products offered by Santander UK are its mortgages and savings accounts. It is one of the leading providers of both in the UK. The bank’s website offers details about these products and all the other products and services it offers, including how to register for them. Alternatively, details and registration are available in any of the bank’s branches.
